Halibut FishingKachemak Bay and the Cook Inlet is an amazingly productive fishing area with plenty of variety and abundant catches! We aggressively fish for all species with halibut as our primary target. We welcome you aboard our 32’ Bayweld the “Diamond Cape” and our 36’ Delta the “SeaHawk”. Both vessels are Coast Guard inspected with the highest “5 star” safety rating. The “SeaHawk” provides a full walk around fishing platform, top gear, rod holders, and raised safety rail. The Diamond Cape was built specifically for Winter King Salmon fishing & combo charters. This boat has lots of visibility and fast (cruise 24 knots), this is a fish getting machine! Both feature state of the art electronics, radar, depth finder, and GPS making fish finding and safety our top priority. They also feature large heated cabins and indoor toilets. Our vessels are skippered by Capt. John Phillips, and Capt. Jordin Keintz. Both are experience long time fishermen in Kachemak Bay and Cook Inlet. Our Captains and crew are there to provide as much or as little assistance as you need.
Your daily take home limit for halibut is 2 fish, and you can release as many as you would like. Our current release record is 36. Typically we will anchor up while fishing around the tides. The idea is to get a scent path using herring to attract in the fish. Halibut can exceed 300 pounds; however the average size is more like 30. This is a full day trip usually leaving the Homer Harbor around 6:30 a.m. and returning to the dock around 5:00 p.m. We clean and fillet all fish and then off to the processor for vacuum packing and freezing and ready for you to take back home.
Capt. John & Capt. Jordin really look forward to Silver Salmon fishing in July & August. The limit is 3 fish per angler. It is not uncommon for us to have 3 to 4 anglers hooked up at the same time. Talk about busy – the captains’ really hustle to net the fish and get rods back in the water. Depending upon weather, we will commonly fish both Silvers and Halibut in the same day. Sometimes even in the same fishing location. Ling Cod season opens on July 1 and the limit for these mighty sea monsters is 2 per day. Our 2004 record was a trophy 62 pounder caught by David Butterfield.
Our day starts early from the Homer Harbor and ends when the Captains say ALL DONE. If time permits, Capt. John & Capt. Jordin get you to some great rock fishing: Black Bass & Yelloweye. Some of these fish are really big & fun to catch. Weather and fishing gods permitting you will have a great day on the water. Guided River Fishing All lodge activities are conducted by Licensed Alaska experienced guides and include the best equipment. Our reservations desk can recommend some great activities for exploring Homer on your free day. These activities include Islands & Oceans Visitors Center, the Pratt Museum, kayaking across the bay, clamming, guided hikes to the glacier, wildlife photography, and tours to Seldovia or just walking on the beach. Please ask if you are considering alternative activities. |
